News India Live, Digital Desk: NITI Aayog’s recent report ‘Future of India’s Development’ emphasizes that in the last few years, Jharkhand and Odisha have touched new heights of development, leaving behind their old image.
5 main points of the report
Higher than average growth rate: According to the report, the GDP growth rate of Jharkhand and Odisha has been equal to or higher than the national average. This is an indication of the structural reforms taking place in these states.
Proper use of mineral resources: NITI Aayog believes that both the states have made better policies for processing and exporting their abundant mineral wealth (coal, iron ore and bauxite), which has led to a huge increase in revenue.
Rise of MSMEs and Startups: Due to ‘Make in Odisha’ in Odisha and ‘New Industrial Policy’ in Jharkhand, a network of small and medium industries (MSME) has been created. There has also been a surge in the number of agriculture-based startups in Jharkhand.
Revolution in Infrastructure: The development of rail, road and special economic zones (SEZs) in the states has won the confidence of investors. The report specifically mentions the benefits of Jharkhand’s ‘Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor’.
Improvement in poverty alleviation: According to NITI Aayog’s Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), there has been a significant decline in the population living below the poverty line due to improvements in health, education and living standards in these two states.
Special note for Jharkhand
NITI Aayog has appreciated Jharkhand’s steps towards ‘renewable energy’ (solar energy). Also, the state’s model of preparing youth for industries through ’employment portal’ and skill development has been cited as an example for other states.
The Road Ahead
The report also suggests some areas for improvement:
Logistics Cost: More digitalization is needed to reduce freight costs.
Rural Connectivity: More investment is needed to connect remote areas with main markets.
Skill Development: To prepare local youth for modern industries (such as semiconductor or green energy).
