Jharkhand Voter List Update: Demand raised to extend SIR deadline, Chief Electoral Officer made a big clarification Jharkhand Voter List Update: Demand raised to extend SIR deadline; Chief Electoral Officer issues major clarification.

Amidst the ongoing Special Intensive Revision Campaign (SIR 2026) of the voter list in Jharkhand, the demand to extend the deadline of the campaign till August 15 is gaining momentum at the political and social level in the state. Clearing the ongoing doubt among voters regarding this process, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jharkhand K. Ravi Kumar has clarified the situation. He has clarified that the name of any eligible voter will not be removed from the voter list.

CEO’s big statement on fear of name being cut

Amid reports of names being added or deleted from the voter list, the Chief Electoral Officer has assured that the main objective of this campaign is to prepare an error-free and transparent voter list. He said in clear words, “Even if a voter remains ‘unmapped’, his name will not be removed from the voter list.” However, he did say that such voters will have to submit their documents later on the notice of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).

What is SIR 2026 campaign?

The ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) campaign, which started in Jharkhand from June 30, 2026, will continue till July 29. Under this campaign, Booth Level Officers (BLO) are going door-to-door to verify the voters. The special thing about this process is that more than 1.63 crore existing voters are not required to submit any new document. All they have to do is sign the pre-filled form provided by the BLO and submit it.

Brainstorming on extending the deadline

Various political parties and civil organizations in the state have demanded extension of the campaign till August 15 considering the pace and reach of the campaign. They argue that due to monsoon and transportation difficulties in remote areas, many voters have not been able to submit the forms yet. At present, the Election Commission has not made any official announcement on this, but BLOs have been instructed to ensure access to every single voter so that no eligible person is deprived of the list.

Important tips for voters

  • Don’t worry about documentation: If your name is already in the list, you do not need any document.

  • Contact BLO: Meet the booth level officer of your area, submit the form and collect the receipt.

  • Use of Form 6: Citizens who have completed 18 years of age by October 1, 2026, can get their names added by filling Form-6.

  • Transparency: This process is completely participatory and is being audited at every level, so do not pay attention to any rumors.
