News India Live, Digital Desk: While the Uttar Pradesh government is spending crores of rupees on providing free books and better education to children under ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’, on the other hand in Bahraich some corrupt elements sold the dreams of children at throwaway prices. New books of the Basic Education Department of the district, which were supposed to be in the hands of the children, were caught being loaded in a truck and dropped at a junk shop.

How was this big scam exposed?

The matter came to light when locals saw a suspicious truck unloading books near a junk shop. As soon as the information was received, police and Basic Education Department (BSA) officials reached the spot.

Recovery: A huge quantity of new government books printed for the session 2025-26 were recovered from the truck.

Arrest: The police raided the scrap dealer and took four accused involved in selling scrap into custody.

Absconding accused: The driver of the truck managed to escape from the spot, for whom police teams are conducting raids.

Strict action by BSA: Departmental employees under investigation

Taking the matter seriously, the District Basic Education Officer (BSA) of Bahraich has ordered an immediate departmental inquiry.

Departmental Collusion: It is feared that such a large number of books cannot reach the junkyard directly from the warehouse without the connivance of any departmental employee.

strict rules: BSA has said that any officer or employee found involved in this scam will be dismissed from service as well as strict legal action will be taken.

Outrage among parents and students

After this incident came to light, there is immense anger among the local parents. There is still a shortage of books in many schools, in such a situation, selling of new books as scrap raises big questions on the functioning of the department.
