Monsoon has started showing its fierce form in Uttar Pradesh. While the continuous rains have brought great relief to the people suffering from the scorching heat and humidity, life has become disrupted due to waterlogging and traffic stoppage in many low-lying areas. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has today issued an alert of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in different parts of the state for Tuesday, July 21, 2026. From a reporter’s point of view, there is a strong possibility of loud thunder, lightning and strong winds at a speed of 40 to 60 km per hour from Western UP to Purvanchal during the next 48 hours. Orange alert of heavy rain in 17 districts including Agra-Kanpur

According to the weather centre, there is a possibility of torrential rain in many districts of western and central Uttar Pradesh today:

• Orange alert districts: Warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm has been issued in Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Kasganj, Etah, Farrukhabad, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Kannauj, Auraiya, Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Jhansi, Mahoba and Banda districts.

• Farmers and pedestrians should be alert: Farmers and pedestrians working in open fields and fields have been advised to take shelter in pucca houses during storms and not to stand under tall trees or electric poles.

How will the weather be in the capital Lucknow and NCR?

• Lucknow and surrounding areas: In the capital Lucknow, a camp of dark clouds has gathered in the sky since this morning. Intermittent heavy showers and intermittent moderate rain are expected throughout the day, due to which the maximum temperature will drop.

• Noida, Ghaziabad and Meerut: In view of the possibility of heavy rain, yellow alert has been issued in Noida, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr and Meerut adjacent to Delhi-NCR.

Water level of rivers increased in Purvanchal and Terai areas

• Terai District: Torrential rains continue in Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Gonda and Basti.

• Rivers in spate: Due to continuous rains in Nepal and hilly areas, the water level of rivers like Ghaghra, Rapti and Sharda is rising rapidly. The administration has instructed villagers living in coastal areas to remain alert.

IMD’s forecast for the next week

According to the Meteorological Department, Monsoon Trough is completely active in Uttar Pradesh:

• Heavy rain till July 24: The period of moderate to heavy rains will continue in the state till July 24.

• 25 to 26 July: After this, there will be a slight decrease in the speed of monsoon, although light to moderate showers will continue at many places.
