Following the warning of heavy rains and landslides issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), all schools and Anganwadi centers have been ordered to remain closed in many districts of both the states today, i.e. on 27 October 2025.

Schools closed in these districts of Odisha
The Odisha government has empowered district collectors of the southern districts of the state to close schools in view of the impact of Cyclonic Storm Remal. After IMD’s alert, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri It has been announced that all educational institutions will remain closed in the districts on Monday.
The state government has issued an advisory and appealed to the people of these districts to remain alert and not to leave their homes unnecessarily. Also, the district administration has been instructed to be prepared for relief and rescue operations.

Like Odisha, Andhra Pradesh government has also issued an alert regarding the storm in its northern coastal districts. Due to the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds, holiday has been declared in schools and colleges on Monday, October 27 in many districts of the state.
The exact and complete list of districts where schools will remain closed will be released by the district collectors, but almost all the schools in the northern coastal areas are likely to remain closed.
What is IMD’s forecast?
According to the IMD, cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ is over the Bay of Bengal and is likely to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall over the north coast of Andhra Pradesh and south coast of Odisha. The storm may also be accompanied by strong winds at a speed of 50-60 km per hour, which may become stronger later. The weather department has also warned of floods in low-lying areas and landslides in hilly areas and has strictly advised fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next few days.
