Vinta Nanda raised questions on Oscar nomination process, reacted on Priyanka and Guneet’s film

The film ‘Anuja’ has been nominated for Oscar 2025 in the list of Best Live Action Short Film. After the nomination of this film, the names of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Guneet Monga are in discussion, because both are among the producers of the film. Meanwhile, TV producer Vinta Nanda has raised questions on the process of Oscar nomination. He wrote a post on social media and expressed his concern over the system.

Vinta raised questions

Vinta Nanda did not take the names of Priyanka and Guneet in his post, but social media users believe that he was referring to the film ‘Anuja’. they wrote:

“Now the system is very bad. Curators walk away with Oscar nominations and awards as producers, while the struggles of artists and their producers are completely eclipsed. What kind of world are we living in?”

Vinta’s response: Questions on producers

After the post, Vinta said in a special conversation with News 18:

“The producers of Anuja were not even named anywhere near Guneet and Priyanka. His name was first in the list. I am sure that like ‘The Elephant Whispers’, ‘Anuja’ will also be a very good film, but now it is becoming common that after a film is made, big network, well-known names suddenly become producers.”

Vinta’s question on the role of producers

Vinta further said:

“These curators just become part of the film’s profits and business. Technically they are not producers, but still they go on stage and receive awards. It is wrong to include his name. I am not against Priyanka and Guneet, because they are talented in their place, but they have become a part of that bad system.”

Vinta also asked:

“Why do festivals need their approval? Do they believe that if Priyanka Chopra’s name is not on the top of the product, the media will not give her coverage?

Vinta’s statement on ‘The Elephant Whispers’

Vinta gave an example and said:

“For ‘The Elephant Whispers’ I only came to the editing stage. I had no connection to the film until the first cut, and I was able to bridge the gap between the filmmaker and the Oscars.”

He said that the Oscar organizers and Guneet need to think about whether what they are doing is right:

“What if some films don’t come under Guneet’s notice? A producer who is already making the film may not be the right medium, as there may be bias. I am sure neither he nor Priyanka are biased, but this is not the right way.”

This statement of Vinta Nanda raises an important question on the Oscar nomination process and the role of curators in the film industry, which can also be a signal for those in the film industry who are part of this process.
