Mother was in a coma and father had sent her to shoot… Sanjay Dutt remembers Nargis Dutt’s last days with moist eyes

Veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has recently recalled the most painful and struggling days of the life of his mother and veteran Indian cinema actress Nargis Dutt, when on one hand the entire family was battling a terrible disease like cancer and on the other hand they had to make their debut in the world of films. During a heart-touching conversation on a YouTube channel, Sanjay Dutt told how his mother was fighting for life and death in the hospital, and what a great lesson his father Sunil Dutt had taught him during that difficult time.

Battle with pancreatic cancer and treatment in America

The period of Nargis Dutt’s demise was very difficult and challenging for the Dutt family. Sanjay Dutt shared in the conversation that his mother was affected by a serious disease like pancreatic cancer. In the early 1980s, medical science and technology were not as advanced as they are today, so for treatment he was taken to Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York, USA, where he underwent a major surgery. At that time, Sanjay Dutt was just 19-20 years old and seeing his mother going through severe physical pain was a shocking experience for him.

When mother and father were in coma, Sunil Dutt sent her on shooting

Recalling the most uncomfortable moment of his life, Sanjay Dutt said that when his first film was about to be released, he was under immense pressure both professionally and mentally. On one hand his mother was in coma in the hospital and on the other hand his father Sunil Dutt had sent him back to work to complete the shooting of his film. Sanjay said that at that young age he did not understand his father’s decision that how can one go to complete a film when the mother is on a ventilator or in a coma. However, following his father’s orders, he completed his film and returned.

‘Mother had given up the fight as soon as she returned home’

Sanjay Dutt became very emotional while remembering his mother’s last moments. He said that he had seen Nargis ji fighting till the end like a true warrior. She had a strong desire to return home, and continued to fight her illness until she returned home to Mumbai. But as soon as she returned home, she seemed to accept defeat and said goodbye to the world. Let us tell you that Nargis Dutt died on 3 May 1981 at the age of just 51, and she could not even see the release of her son Sanjay Dutt’s first film ‘Rocky’.
