The Bombay High Court has issued a very important and strict order regarding the historic and prestigious bungalow ‘Aashirvad’ of Hindi cinema’s first ‘superstar’ Rajesh Khanna. The court has directed various media organizations and social media platforms to immediately stop publishing news and claims terming the property as ‘cursed’, ‘haunted’ or ‘inauspicious’. The court, in its interim order, has clarified that such sensational and baseless statements are prima facie defamatory, which directly violate the fundamental rights of the existing landlord to live a life of honor and dignity.
Who owns this historic bungalow of Rajesh Khanna now?
For your information, let us tell you that veteran actor Rajesh Khanna died in July 2012. Shortly after his demise, his family sold this historic bungalow to prominent businessman Shashi Shetty. According to reports, this deal was done for around Rs 90 crore. After purchasing the property, the new owner Shashi Shetty completely demolished the old bungalow and built a new four-storey modern house for his family to live there. However, respecting the old memories and the historical importance of this bungalow, he has still named it ‘Aashirvad’.
Why did the current owner have to approach the Bombay High Court?
In recent times, many such articles and videos were going viral on the internet, social media and some digital media platforms in which ‘Aashirvad’ bungalow was included in the list of the most ‘haunted’ or ‘cursed’ houses in the country. Due to such misleading, fabricated and negative news, the mental peace and reputation of the current owner Shashi Shetty was being harmed. Fed up with these baseless rumors and sensational claims being spread about her house, Shashi Shetty finally approached the Bombay High Court and demanded legal action.
Court’s strict remarks and next hearing
Understanding the seriousness of the matter, the Bombay High Court has completely justified the objections of the current owner Shashi Shetty. Commenting in a strong tone, the Court said that it is completely illegal and unfair to describe someone’s personal property as ‘haunted’ or ‘cursed’ without any logical basis just for the purpose of increasing one’s TRP or spreading sensation. Since during the hearing no one appeared in the court on behalf of the accused or the concerned media platforms to present their case, the High Court has completely banned all such defamatory publications and video broadcasts till the next hearing on 21st August 2026.

This ‘Aashirvaad’ of Rajesh Khanna has been a great witness to the golden history of Bengali Hindi cinema. In the 1950s, famous actor Rajendra Kumar bought this land and built a house here and named it ‘Dimiya’. After living in this house, Rajendra Kumar got many superhit films in his kitty and he came to be called ‘Jubilee Kumar’ of Hindi cinema. After this, in the year 1970, Rajesh Khanna bought this bungalow from Rajendra Kumar and changed its name to ‘Aashirvad’. While living within the four walls of this prestigious bungalow, Rajesh Khanna achieved the status of the first ‘Superstar’ of Indian cinema. However, after Rajesh Khanna’s demise in 2012, his wish was to convert it into a museum, but due to family and financial reasons it was eventually sold, and now it exists in a new modern form.
