- Freedom from rust: The iron guards rusted due to rain and sun and broke quickly. There is no question of rusting of plastic. These will last for years and provide protection to the plants.
Less expense, more security
The department says that these plastic guards are cheaper than iron and are easy to install and move from one place to another. Often plants get hurt by iron mesh or animals get entangled in it, this risk is also less with plastic guards.
At present, it is being seen as a pilot project. If it is successful in Lucknow, then gradually you will see the same green plastic guards all over UP.
This is a small change, but it is considered a very wise step to stop wastage of government money and save trees.
