The Central Government has given the green signal to the 490 km long ‘Mineral Express Corridor’ for Bastar, a dream that is now on its way to becoming a reality.
This railway line will start from Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, pass through Bijapur in Chhattisgarh and reach Bacheli in Dantewada. This is not just a plan made on paper, but the first strong steps have also been taken to turn it into reality. The Railway Ministry has approved Rs 12.25 crore for its survey.
Confluence of three states, new story of development
This railway line will thread together the borders of three states – Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Telangana – like a garland. Think about those tribal villages of Bijapur, where people might have seen the train from a distance. Now there will be a railway station in their own village, where the train bell will ring for the first time. This will not be just a train, but will open new doors of employment for the local youth. Workers working in the iron mines of Bacheli will no longer wait for dusty trucks, but for comfortable train journeys.
Bastar MP’s hard work pays off
Bastar MP Mahesh Kashyap has put a lot of hard work behind making this dream come true. He had gone to Delhi and demanded this route from the Railway Minister, which the government has now accepted seriously. The MP says that for a long time, Bastar was kept away from the mainstream of development, but now the double engine government is rapidly working on connecting every district of Bastar with railway tracks.
When will this dream train run?
Railway Board has prepared its complete plan. This project is targeted to be completed by 2028.

- In 2026: Land acquisition and tender process will be completed.

This wave of development will not be limited to Bijapur and Dantewada only. Efforts have started to connect Sukma district of South Bastar, which was untouched by rail till now, with the rail network. Bastar MP has demanded that the railway line being built till nearby Malkangiri should be extended by only 30 kilometers to Sukma. If this happens, it will bring a new dawn for the heavily Naxal-hit Sukma, and people here will also be able to easily connect with the rest of the country.
