News India Live, Digital Desk: Akshaya Navami 2025: In the beautiful garland of festivals comes a very holy and important day, which is Akshaya Navami Or Amla Navami Known as. “Akshaya” simply means that which never decays, that is, which never ends. This is the biggest specialty of this day. It is believed that any good work done on this day, like charity or worship, never ends, but remains with us for many births.

This holy festival is celebrated every year on the ninth date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. In the year 2025, Akshaya Navami will be celebrated on Friday, 31 October.

What is the miraculous fasting story of Akshaya Navami?

There is a very beautiful story behind why Amla Navami is celebrated which is related to Mother Lakshmi and a moneylender.

According to the story, in ancient times there was a pious moneylender who lived with his wife. He did not have any children, due to which his wife remained very sad. One day, the wife’s friend advised her to sacrifice a child to Bhairav Baba to have a child.

When the wife told this to the moneylender, he became very sad and said that we cannot commit such a grave sin, we will accept whatever result God gives us. The wife remained adamant and one day she secretly stole a girl and sacrificed it to Bhairav. The result of this sin was that the wife’s entire body was affected by leprosy and she started suffering unbearable pain.

When she told the whole story to her husband, the moneylender understood everything and asked her to take a bath in the Ganges. The husband and wife started living on the banks of Ganga, but even after many years the wife’s illness was not cured. One day, a goddess appeared before him in the guise of a Brahmin and advised him to worship the Amla tree and consume Amla on the Navami day of Kartik Shukla Paksha. The moneylender and his wife observed this fast and puja on every Navami for nine years, due to which the wife’s body became completely healthy and beautiful and later they also got a child.

Another story is also related to Mother Lakshmi, in which she chose the Amla tree to worship Lord Vishnu and Shiva together.

Why is the worship of Amla tree so special on this day?

  • Beginning of Satyayuga: According to religious beliefs, Satyayuga, i.e. the era of religion, started from this auspicious day. Therefore, any auspicious work done on this day always remains eternal.
  • Abode of Lord Vishnu and Shiva: It is believed that in the month of Kartik, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva themselves reside in the Amla tree, hence worshiping it brings blessings of both.
  • Blessing of health: On this day, eating food while sitting under the shade of Amla tree and consuming Amla is considered like nectar. This keeps the person healthy and his lifespan increases.

This festival not only gives us an opportunity to earn virtue, but also inspires us to connect with nature and express our gratitude towards it.
