News India Live, Digital Desk: Telangana Chief Minister A.K. Revanth Reddy has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The court has ruled in his favor in a defamation case filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against him. This is the case when Revanth Reddy accused the BJP that the party is not giving an account of Rs 4000 crore in the name of building a temple in Telangana.

What was the whole matter?

In fact, some time ago, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had targeted the BJP in a public meeting, saying that the party has collected a donation of Rs 4000 crore from the public in the name of construction and development of temples in the state, but where the money went, there is no account of where this money went. He had demanded the BJP to make the full details of this amount public.

After this statement by Revanth Reddy, the Telangana BJP had filed a case of defamation against him, calling it a conspiracy to tarnish the image of the party. The matter reached the Supreme Court via lower courts.

What did the Supreme Court say?

While hearing the case, the Supreme Court stayed the ongoing criminal defamation proceedings against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The court gave it a big relief, but also asked the BJP an important question. The court told the lawyer appearing on behalf of the BJP that if any political party is accused about the public money, then it is the responsibility of that party to come in front of the public and give account of it.

This comment of the court is clear that public representatives and political parties should be accountable to the public. This decision of the Supreme Court is considered a big win for Revanth Reddy, while it is a shock for the BJP, as they may have to answer on donations of Rs 4000 crore.
