Varanasi, 23 October (Hindustan Reporter). Railway Board member Infra Naveen Gulati inspected the ongoing development works at Varanasi Junction (Cantt) on Wednesday. Naveen Gulati also inspected the places falling under Varanasi division and Kashi railway station and examined the progress of development works. After examining the ongoing development works with Varanasi Divisional Railway Manager SM Sharma and other officials of the division, he stressed on completing the works on time with proper quality. Naveen Gulati first reached the site of the newly constructed four rail track and 6 lane road bridge parallel to the Malviya Bridge at Rajghat. After inspecting the site, he thoroughly assessed the physical condition of the work site and also observed the outline of the entire process of its construction. After this he reached Kashi station and inspected the station. Got information about the progress of work and yard remodeling of the newly constructed building of the station. Reaching Varanasi Cantt Junction from here, he inspected the ongoing progress and completed works at the station.
Full scale mock drill will be held in Banaras Coaching Depot Yard on Thursday, meeting regarding mock drill.
A safety meeting was organized on Wednesday in Bharatendu Auditorium of Varanasi Divisional Office of North Eastern Railway. In the meeting, it was discussed to test the quick response mechanism by conducting a mock drill exercise. In this sequence, a plan was made to conduct a full scale mock drill on Thursday with the 11th battalion of NDRF in the sick line of Banaras Coaching Depot Yard. Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operation) Rajesh Kumar Singh, Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Infra) RL Yadav, Chief Medical Superintendent AJ Chaudhuri, Senior Divisional Safety Officer Balendra Pal, Senior Divisional Engineer Rakesh Ranjan, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Sheikh Rehman. Security was discussed in the presence of other officers.
NDRF Deputy Commandant Ram Bhavan Singh, through a power point presentation, highlighted the need for quick response in railway accidents occurring in adverse circumstances such as derailment, collision or fire on bridge, tunnel, river bridge, earthquake or flood. Told about the process of reducing the impact of the incident, taking immediate relief and rescue action and saving maximum lives. He also sought suggestions from the Railway officials regarding measures to be taken to take prompt action and save maximum lives.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Infra) RL Yadav and Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operation) Rajesh Kumar Singh, giving examples of previous accidents related to railways, said that the time taken to reach the accident site has to be reduced. Only then can maximum relief be provided. Often, the help that victims receive from local citizens at the time of an accident proves to be very helpful. In accident prone areas, it would be very beneficial to train regional citizens near railway lines and stations in disaster management.
