BPSC 70th Result: Katihar’s son Somnath, son of former chief, excels in BPSC


There is an atmosphere of celebration in Sagarth Panchayat of Kadwa block of Katihar district after the results of 70th Combined Competitive Examination of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) came out. In this examination, 22 year old Somnath performed brilliantly and secured 1467th position, bringing honor not only to his family but also to the entire region. There is a rush of people congratulating the house of father Ramnath Mandal, former head of Somnath, and mother Julie Devi, an Anganwadi worker.

5-7 hours of self-study and discipline is the key to success

Somnath, who credits his success to the blessings of his grandfather late Dwarika Prasad Mandal and the guidance of his parents, has set an example for students who dream big despite limited resources. According to Somnath, he emphasized on self-study instead of relying on any coaching. He used to study concentratedly for 5 to 7 hours every day. His early education was from Kumhari in Katihar and after completing his graduation in Zoology from Purnia College in 2023, he made the pursuit of BPSC his passion.

Somnath was brilliant since childhood

Somnath is the eldest among four siblings. According to neighbors and villagers, Somnath was very serious and brilliant towards studies since childhood. Hundreds of dignitaries including local teacher Suresh Yadav, social workers Devanand Singh, Sachchidanand Singh and Pankaj Yadav have expressed happiness over his achievement. This story of Somnath proves that with determination and continuous hard work, any competitive exam can be cracked.

BPSC 70th Exam: Toppers and important figures

In the result declared by BPSC on June 20, 2026, Shraddha Pandey has topped by scoring 593 marks, while Shashank Gaurav and Ayush Bijoy jointly stood second and third. This time the Commission has completed the process for appointment to a total of 2027 posts in 27 departments. Talking about the journey of the examination, the preliminary examination was conducted on 13 December 2024 at 911 centers in 37 districts. Due to irregularities in the Bapu examination complex, re-examination was also organized in which lakhs of candidates had appeared. 21581 candidates were declared successful in the main examination and 5449 candidates were declared successful in the interview.
