News India Live, Digital Desk: Ramesh Sippy Reveals: Bollywood’s blockbuster film ‘Sholay’ is considered one of the finest films of Indian cinema, and the stories behind its production are often as interesting as the film itself. Recently, veteran director Ramesh Sippy shared challenges in shooting some scenes of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan (at that time Jaya Bhaduri) in the film.

Ramesh Sippy, while speaking at the ‘What the Duck’ podcast, said that Jaya Bhaduri was not allowed to tell anyone about his pregnancy during the shooting of ‘Sholay’. This was important because of his character, Radha, and the demand for the story, because his character was a calm and width woman in the film, this situation was making it very challenging to shoot some scenes.

Sippy specifically mentioned the quiet, hearty scenes between Radha and Jai (starring by Amitabh Bachchan), which had no dialogue. Jaya had shots while burning or sitting alone, in which he had to find creative ways to hide her pregnancy, the director said that she used different angles to hide Jaya’s pregnancy and used light strategically. Despite this, it was difficult to ensure that there was no change on the camera in any way. He said, “Jaya’s shots during pregnancy were crazy. It was just Jaya Bhaduri.” He appreciated the professional view of both Amitabh and Jaya that he played his roles well despite these challenges.

The film ‘Sholay’ is a milestone in Indian cinema, with actors in the lead roles like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan, this story of Ramesh Sippy highlights how hard and creativity was used to make a classic film like ‘Sholay’.
