Non-veg business will be removed from religious and residential areas
According to this new mega plan of the Municipal Corporation, non-veg shops will be completely cleaned from the areas around the Kashi Vishwanath Temple corridor as well as other major religious, historical and dense residential areas of the city. Officials say that it was necessary to take this step to maintain the religious sentiments, faith and cleanliness of the city of the devotees from India and abroad who come to the holy city. Till now, new and strict rules are being implemented regarding the license and operation of the shops which were running smoothly on the streets or main intersections.
State-of-the-art meat market and vending zone will be built outside the city
The administration has also found a middle path to ensure that traders involved in the meat and fish business do not suffer losses due to this decision. The Municipal Corporation is going to create a dedicated and state-of-the-art ‘Meat and Fish Vending Zone’ on the Outer Ring Road or the outskirts of the city, outside the main residential and commercial areas of the city. All legal and illegal shops running within the city will be shifted to this outer zone. This new vending zone will have modern facilities like cleanliness, waste management and cold storage, so that environmental and health related regulations can be completely followed.
A big debate broke out between local shopkeepers and the public
After getting the approval of the Municipal Corporation, the survey work has been started to implement this decision on the ground. Strict instructions have been issued to close unlicensed and illegally running shops. While on one hand this historic decision has been welcomed wholeheartedly by local saints, priests and Sanatan lovers, on the other hand local organizations associated with meat and fish trade have expressed concern over it. Traders say that due to shifting away from the city, it will have a direct impact on their employment and daily earnings, for which they are demanding relief from the administration.
