News India Live, Digital Desk: The suspense thriller ‘Tu Ya Main’ released on OTT is in the news for its dark and intense story. But the story behind the scenes of the series is even more scary. Director Bejoy Nambiar recently shared that for an important sequence in the film, he decided to shoot with real crocodiles, ignoring safety warnings.
“Everyone said, have you gone mad?”
Nambiar recalled the challenges of the shoot:
Safety warning: When he pitched his idea to the production team, everyone advised him not to do it. Crew members and experts said that it could be fatal.
Said ‘no’ to CGI: The director believed that computer graphics (VFX) could not create the ‘raw’ and ‘organic’ fear that comes from seeing a real animal. He wanted that real fear on the faces of the actors.
Location Challenge: The shooting took place in a marshy area where the presence of crocodiles created an atmosphere of tension on the entire set.
How was ‘Danger’ handled on the set?
Although the crocodiles were real, strict security measures were in place:
Animal Handlers: Professional trainers and forest department people were present on the set who were monitoring the behavior of the animals.
Courage of Artists: The cast were briefed in advance. During the scene, a safe but ‘invisible’ distance for the cameras was maintained between them and the crocodiles.
Quick Response Team: Medical and rescue teams were on standby for any emergency.
Bejoy Nambiar’s vision: crazy about ‘realism’
Bejoy Nambiar (known for films like ‘Shaitan’ and ‘Wazir’) has always liked to stay close to reality in his cinematography. He said, “When you do something original in cinema, it has a deep impact on the audience. That scene in ‘Tu Ya Main’ is the life of the series because the fear in it is not acting, but reality.”
About the series: ‘Tu Yaa Main’
