Delhiites got immediate relief from heat, mercury dropped due to rain; GRAP-2 restrictions lifted, but now these worries will haunt:

New Delhi. The change in weather on Wednesday has given great relief to Delhi, which was scorching for the last two days. Wednesday was a relaxing day for the people of Delhi who were feeling May-like heat even in February. Cloudy sky, strong winds and sporadic rain in many areas have pushed the mercury down. According to the Meteorological Department, a drop of about 10 degrees was recorded in the day temperature, which has provided immediate relief to the people from the heat. Meanwhile, in view of the slight improvement in air quality, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has taken a major decision and removed the restrictions of the second phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) with immediate effect.

GRAP-2 removed, now there will be no ban on these things

In view of the stability in pollution levels and changes in weather in Delhi-NCR, CAQM has withdrawn the restrictions imposed under GRAP-2. This simply means that now the ban on the use of Diesel Generator Sets (DG Sets) in Delhi has been lifted. Apart from this, the increase in parking fees will also be withdrawn. The biggest relief has come to transporters, because now the ban on entry of interstate buses with non-BS-6 diesel and non-CNG has also ended. However, the Commission has clarified that the rules of GRAP-1 will still be applicable. That means rules like water sprinkling on roads, use of anti-smog guns and PUC checking will continue to be strictly enforced.

The mercury dropped by 10 degrees, but happiness lasted only for a few moments.

While Delhi’s maximum temperature was recorded at 30.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, it fell to 21.1 degrees Celsius on Wednesday due to rain and cold winds. This is three degrees less than the normal temperature of this season. However, due to clouds, the night temperature saw a rise and the minimum temperature was recorded at 15.8 degrees Celsius. Light drizzle was recorded in many areas including Safdarjung, Palam and Lodhi Road.

Heat will haunt again on the weekend, mercury will reach 32 degrees

If you are thinking that summer is over now, then be careful. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that this relief is extremely temporary. As soon as the effect of Western Disturbance subsides, the temperature graph will start rising again from Thursday. According to IMD officials, the sky will be clear and sunny from Thursday and Friday. It is estimated that by Sunday the maximum temperature may once again reach 31 to 32 degrees Celsius. This means that the farewell of February and the beginning of March are likely to be accompanied by sweat-inducing heat. Nights are also likely to be warmer than before, where the mercury may remain between 12 to 14 degrees.
