Delhi Airport’s biggest headache is over! Now running from T1 to T3 will stop

There is a great news for frequent travelers at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The hassle and rush of catching a taxi or shuttle bus from one terminal to another is soon going to end. Delhi Metro and Airport Authority have found a solution to this biggest problem of passengers.

Now T1 and T3 will be connected to metro

The biggest problem so far was that the airport had direct access to Terminal 3 (T3) of the Airport Express Line (Orange Line) and the Magenta Line to Terminal 1 (T1), but there was no direct metro connection between these two terminals. The distance between T1 and T3 is a few kilometers, to cover which passengers had to take taxi or bus, which wasted a lot of time and money.

But now, this problem is being eliminated forever. The newly constructed ‘Golden Line’ of Delhi Metro will now be extended beyond Aerocity and taken directly to Terminal 1. DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said that this extension will connect T1 and T3 directly to the metro network, which will make the journey of passengers very easy and fast.

A ‘mega-station’ and the ‘air train’ of the future

This facility does not end here. A huge integrated station is being built in Aerocity, from where you will be able to catch the Golden Line, Airport Express Line and Regional Rapid Transit Service (RRTS). This multi-modal hub will be no less than a game-changer for passengers, which will make connectivity from any corner of Delhi-NCR to the airport easier.

Apart from this, DIAL is also working on an ‘air train’ or Automated People Mover (APM) system. It will be a small, driver-less train that will run on an elevated track and connect T1, T2 and T3. This means that in future you will be able to use this modern air train to go from one terminal to another.

This initiative will provide relief from traffic jam to more than 10 crore passengers traveling to Delhi Airport every year. Now the journey between domestic and international terminals can be completed in minutes, which will further strengthen Delhi as a world-class transport hub.
