Mumbai: Many months have passed since the results of assembly elections in Maharashtra came out, but a sensational claim by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray has once again created a stir in the political circles. Aditya has claimed that there were so many irregularities in the voter list of his Worli assembly constituency that during the elections held there last year, there was a lot of voting. ‘Fake Voting’ Hui.
At a party rally in Mumbai, Aditya Thackeray, in a Rahul Gandhi-esque media presentation, showed how the voter list was allegedly rigged, and how it could have an impact on the upcoming BMC elections.
Thousands of irregularities, voting even in the name of dead people!
The claims made by Aditya Thackeray and his team are really shocking. He explained what his team found in the investigation:
- Over 19,000 errors: Comparing the data of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, around 16,000 new voters were added in Worli Assembly, but when his team checked it, more than 19,000 discrepancies were found.
- Gender Manipulation: In 643 cases, a discrepancy was found in the gender (female/male) of the voters, which the Election Commission termed as mere ‘printing error’.
- Father and son name one: There were 502 cases where the name of the voter and his father was written the same.
- Even dead bodies became voters: The most shocking case was that a person who had died and his name was removed from the Lok Sabha election list, his name reappeared in the Assembly election list with a new voter ID card number!
Aditya Thackeray simply said, “We all expected the MVA (Mahavikas Aghadi) to form the government, but the results surprised everyone. Today I am showing you how a fake voter list might have affected those results.”
Will BMC elections also be affected?
Aditya Thackeray stressed that if this voter list is not properly checked and corrected before the upcoming BMC elections, it will be extremely dangerous for democracy.
He appealed to his party workers to carefully check every voter list released by the Election Commission so that there is no rigging in the elections.
Gave the example of Bihar
Shiv Sena (UBT) has been continuously alleging that names of outsiders have been deliberately added to the voter list of Maharashtra. Citing the example of Bihar, the party said that when the voter list was checked there, about 48 lakh names out of 7.9 crore voters were found to be fake and were removed. The party says that if a similar impartial investigation is conducted in Mumbai, a “major irregularity” would be revealed here too, which could open the way for election rigging.
