A similar issue is coming to light from Mau district of Uttar Pradesh, which has heated up the politics.
Samajwadi Party suspects that there is some big “conflict” going on in the voter list of Mau assembly seat. Regarding this matter, a delegation of SP met the Chief Electoral Officer of UP in Lucknow and lodged its complaint with evidence.

One man, many place names?
SP leaders say that when they checked the new voter list of Mau Sadar Assembly, they were surprised. He alleged that there are thousands of names in this list which are either fake or duplicate.
- Names of dead people: It is alleged that the names of people who are no more in this world are still being mentioned in the list.
- Shifted Voter: The names of those who left there years ago have not been removed.
- revision: The biggest problem reported is that the name of the same voter is registered twice at different booths or at the same booth.
SP says this could be a conspiracy to conduct “fake voting”.

He directly says that the voter list should be “absolutely pure”, so that people’s trust in democracy remains.

The Chief Electoral Officer has listened to the SP leaders and given them assurance. Now it remains to be seen how the administration verifies these 22 thousand names. If the allegations turn out to be true, it will prove to be a huge administrative lapse.
