News India Live, Digital Desk: Before the second phase of voting in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the political temperature has reached sky high. This time a fight has broken out between Uttar Pradesh’s IPS Ajay Pal Sharma, who is called ‘encounter specialist’, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. A video of Ajay Pal Sharma, sent by the Election Commission as a Police Observer to Bengal, is spreading like wildfire on social media, in which he is seen giving a stern warning to those close to the TMC candidate. Akhilesh Yadav has made a scathing attack regarding this video and has openly warned the officials of facing serious consequences in future.

‘It’s okay if you misbehave…’ IPS Sharma’s video goes viral IPS Ajay Pal Sharma, 2011 batch of UP cadre, has been posted in South 24 Parganas district. In the viral video, he is seen raiding the residence of Jahangir Khan, considered close to TMC candidate and Abhishek Banerjee. In the video, Ajay Pal Sharma is seen saying, “Make Jahangir understand that if people are threatened, we will take notice as per law. Don’t cry or regret later.” Along with this, he has also issued a notice to the local SP regarding additional policemen deployed for the security of Jahangir Khan.

Akhilesh Yadav’s counterattack: ‘These officers are tested agents of BJP’ As soon as this video surfaced, Akhilesh Yadav opened a front on the social media platform ‘X’. Without naming IPS Ajay Pal Sharma, he accused him of being a ‘BJP agent’. Akhilesh wrote, “BJP has sent its officers to Bengal who are ‘tested’ to implement their agenda in districts like Rampur and Sambhal. When the right time comes, all their criminal misdeeds will be investigated.” Using even stronger words, he said, “Agents of these agendas will be hunted down and brought to justice. Crimes against democracy will not be forgiven.”

Sharp opposition from Mamata Banerjee and TMC Not only Akhilesh, but West Bengal’s ruling party TMC has also expressed strong objection to this. TMC leaders allege that in the name of Election Commission, BJP is trying to intimidate voters through the ‘strong’ police officers of UP. TMC MP Mahua Moitra has also taken a dig at this and termed it as ‘domineering’. On the other hand, BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya praised the action of Ajay Pal Sharma and called him ‘Singham of UP’ and said that the era of hooliganism is about to end in Bengal.

Singham vs Politics: A new war broke out in Bengal IPS Ajay Pal Sharma is known for his aggressive policing and more than 100 encounters. His deployment in a sensitive state like Bengal had already left the opposition apprehensive and now this latest controversy has added fuel to the fire. This attack by Akhilesh Yadav is not only affecting the Bengal elections but is also bringing a boil in the politics of UP. Now it remains to be seen what cognizance the Election Commission takes on this political rhetoric and video controversy.
