Mumbai-based Antode Pharmaceuticals has achieved this feat. The company has developed the new 'Presvu' eye drops using pilocarpine. This prescription-based drug will be available in the Indian markets in October for just Rs 300.
This drug has been developed to treat mild to moderate presbyopia in people aged 40-55 years. Work on this eye drop was going on for two years. After which the company got success. Now the drug regulatory agency has approved these eye drops.
It was launched on Tuesday from the Antode Pharmaceuticals complex in Mumbai. This drug treats presbyopia by reducing the size of the pupils. Which helps in seeing the surrounding objects.
Presbyopia occurs after the age of 40. Due to which there is difficulty in seeing nearby objects. Due to this disease, the ability of the eyes starts decreasing. By the end of the 60s, the eyes get completely damaged.
Antode Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nikhil K Masurkar claims that the effect of these drops starts showing within 15 minutes of administration. Its effect lasts for the next six hours. If the second drop is given within three hours of the first drop, the effect will last longer.
