NEET UG 2026 re-exam today: More than 22 lakh students will appear for the exam again, NTA issues strict guidelines


Today, Sunday, June 21, is a very important day for approximately 22.79 lakh medical examinees and their parents of the country. After facing the controversies of paper leak, these students who dream of becoming doctors are once again entering the battle of NEET UG 2026. This examination is a big litmus test not only for the future of the students but also for the credibility of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the security apparatus of the country. For the smooth conduct of the examination, NTA has issued strict advisories and guidelines for the candidates.

Check these 3 things before going to the examination centre, NTA advised

NTA has issued last minute guidelines for the candidates through social media platforms. It is mandatory for students to carry the following documents with them to gain entry to the examination centre:

  • Admit Card: Official admit card of NEET UG 2026 re-exam.

  • Valid Photo ID Proof: Aadhar Card, PAN Card or any other government identity card.

  • Passport size photo: Candidates will also have to carry two passport size photographs with them.

NTA has advised the candidates to reach the examination center on time so that the security check process can be completed without any hurry and they can take the examination with a calm mind.

The great competition will start from 2 pm in 565 cities of the country and abroad.

This re-examination of NEET UG 2026 is being conducted simultaneously in 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. The timing of the exam has been scheduled from 2:00 pm to 5:15 pm, which will be completely in pen-and-paper (offline) mode. At the same time, eligible candidates of Disabled (PwD/PwBD) category will be given additional time as per rules, so that they will be able to complete their examination by 6:20 pm. To make this entire process transparent and successful, more than 2 lakh employees have been put on duty across the country.

Examination center equipped with three-layer security and real-time CCTV surveillance

This time, to maintain the sanctity of the examination, NTA has prepared an impenetrable security cover at the centres. All the examination centers have been handed over to the security agencies, where three-level security arrangements will be in place:

  • Biometric Authentication: Strict biometric authentication process will be adopted at the examination centers to prevent cheating and fake candidates.

  • GPS and Paramilitary Forces: GPS-enabled vehicles are being used for safe transportation of question papers and answer booklets, and the responsibility for its security rests with the paramilitary force.

  • Live Monitoring from Control Room: CCTV cameras have been installed at more than 5,000 centres, whose live feed will be directly available to the high-level monitoring center of NTA. This center is also keeping a close watch on any suspicious activity on social media and internet.

Administrative staff and security agencies alert, thousands of officers deployed

A strong coordination has been created between the local administration, police and education department to conduct the examination without any glitches. A large team has been deployed for monitoring at the ground level, with 674 city coordinators appointed to handle city-level arrangements. Along with this, 6,669 observers have been sent to keep a close watch on the centers independently. Along with the alertness of the center superintendent and invigilator, special escort teams of the district administration and police are deployed at every center to protect the confidential examination material.
