Suvendu Sarkar Launches ‘Surgical Strike’ Against Infiltrators in Bengal; Two Detention Camps Operational: Shubhendu government’s surgical strike on infiltrators in Bengal, two detention camps started

The newly formed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of West Bengal has started implementing its biggest election promise with full force as soon as it came to power. As soon as Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari’s government took over the reins of the state, it has started an all-out crackdown against illegal foreign citizens and infiltrators. In this connection, for the first time in the history of the state, two new ‘holding centres’ i.e. detention camps have been started on Monday. Within less than 24 hours of the government order being issued, the security agencies showed promptness and arrested a total of 12 Bangladeshi infiltrators and imprisoned them in these centres. Of these, 9 infiltrators are kept in the holding center of Malda and 3 in Lalgola detention center of Murshidabad district.

‘Detect, Delete and Deport’ mega campaign launched to eliminate infiltrators

The Shubhendu government has announced a ‘Detect, Delete and Deport’ campaign to completely drive out illegal immigrants from the borders and interior areas of Bengal. Under this strategy, these high-tech ‘holding centres’ have been prepared to temporarily keep identified infiltrators till the legal process is completed before sending them back to their country. These centers have been started in Lalgola of Murshidabad district and English Bazaar of Malda district. District Magistrates (DM) and Superintendents of Police (SP) were given strict instructions by the State Home Department to identify illegal foreign nationals and immediately detain them, the effect of which is now visible on the ground.

Chandan Park Detention Center under tight security, 24-hour deployment of CCTV cameras and civil defense

According to information received from administrative officials, very strict and impenetrable security arrangements have been made at these newly constructed holding centres. For internal and external security of the centres, 24-hour surveillance is being done through third eye i.e. CCTV cameras. Along with this, a large number of police forces, civil defense personnel and civilian volunteers have been deployed. Officials said that this center built in Chandan Park in Malda’s English Bazaar is a very modern camp of its kind, where currently 9 Bangladeshi citizens are living, which includes 3 women and 6 minors. They were brought here from Pandua area of Gazole under security cover on Sunday. Complete arrangements have been made for the accommodation, food and basic medical care of these prisoners in the camp.

Suspect completely failed to show Indian documents, caught by Ranitala police

According to police and local administrative sources, an intensive checking operation was conducted in Ranitala police station area of Murshidabad district on Monday. During this time the police detained three suspicious youths. When the security officials asked him for a valid citizenship document or visa-passport allowing him to stay in India, he completely failed to produce any legal paper. After this, the police immediately arrested him considering him as an illegal infiltrator. These detained Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Mohammad Salim, Mohammad Rubel and Shariful Islam, who have been sent to Lalgola Centre.

Rohingyas and Bangladeshis will not remain in jail like normal prisoners, they will be deported directly by handing them over to BSF.

English Bazar BJP MLA Amlan Bhaduri confirmed this major action and said that all the identified illegal citizens have been kept in this new centre. He made it clear that under the existing international and Indian legal procedures, the deportation formalities of all these foreign nationals are being completed expeditiously, after which they will be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) so that they can be sent back to Bangladesh.

MLA Bhaduri said in a warning tone that this stringent process of verification and identification will continue in the entire Malda district and border areas. Recently, in a historic policy change, the state Home Department has given clear instructions that Bangladeshi and Myanmar illegal immigrants (which also include Rohingya) caught under the Foreigners Act will no longer be put in ordinary jails like regular criminals. Instead, they will be presented directly in the court and sent to these government detention camps. At present, the District Police and BSF are jointly scanning the entire database of these prisoners so that they can be deported as soon as possible through international legal coordination.
