News India Live, Digital Desk: The election atmosphere in Bihar is completely heated. On one hand, there is great celebration of Chhath festival, on the other hand, political temperatures are also rising. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, while making election noise from the soil of Bihar, has made the biggest and direct cultural attack so far on the opposition, especially Congress and RJD. He has seriously accused the opposition of insulting Bihar’s biggest faith symbols, ‘Chhath Maiya’ and ‘Surya Dev’.
While addressing the huge crowd present in his rally, PM Modi said that the leaders of Congress and RJD are cut off from the culture and traditions of Bihar. He said that those who do not understand Chhath Puja, who do not know the importance of the tradition of offering Arghya to the Sun God, can never do any good to Bihar.
What else did PM Modi say?
Adopting an emotional tone in his speech, PM Modi said, “These are the people who make fun of your faith. These people insult Chhath Maiya. Those who do not understand the importance of worshiping the Sun and offering Arghya, how will they understand the great culture of Bihar?”
He further said that the ‘shehzade’ (referring to Rahul Gandhi) of Congress and RJD leaders have been cut off from the roots of Bihar. For them Chhath may be just a festival, but for the people of Bihar it is a feeling, a deep faith, which they will never understand. Appealing to the public, the Prime Minister said that those who cannot respect your culture and your gods and goddesses have no right to even ask for votes.
Big stake of faith in elections
Political experts believe that this statement of PM Modi has the potential to influence the direction of the elections. Chhath Puja is a festival related to the people of Bihar which is above caste, religion and politics. By raising this issue, BJP has directly tried to pit the opposition against the culture of Bihar.
This is such an emotional issue that directly connects to the hearts of people. Now it will be interesting to see how Congress and RJD respond to this direct and sharp attack of PM Modi and what verdict the people of Bihar give on the issues of faith and development in this election riot.
