Hisar, 4 November (Hissar). The demand for improved varieties of millet developed by Haryana Agricultural University is continuously increasing. For this, the University has signed an MoU with Sampoorna Seeds Company of Andhra Pradesh to promote technical commercialization.
Vice Chancellor Prof. BR Kamboj said on Monday that the advanced varieties developed by the university should reach more and more farmers, for this agreements (MoUs) are being made with companies of different states.
Under the above agreement, the company will prepare the seeds of millet HHB 67 Modified-2 developed by the university and deliver them to the farmers so that they can get reliable seeds of this variety and their production can increase. The MoU has been signed by Research Director Dr. Rajbir Garg on behalf of the University and Mr. Y. Ramesh has signed it on behalf of Sampoorna Seeds Company of Andhra Pradesh. Human Resource Management Director Dr. Ramesh Yadav said that after the signing of the MoU, the company will now pay license fees to the university, under which it will get the right to produce and market the seeds. After this, farmers will also be able to get this improved variety of seeds.
Chairman of Millet Section, Dr. Anil Yadav said that HHB-67 Modified 2 is an improved version of Jogiya disease resistant hybrid variety of millet, HHB 67 Modified. This hybrid variety has been approved in 2021 for common cultivation in the rainfed areas of Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. The male parent H77/833-2-202 of modified HHB 67 has been made resistant to Jogia disease by marker assisted selection. This newly developed hybrid variety HHB 67 Modified 2 has all the characteristics of HHB 67 Modified, such as early maturity; Drought resistance, early, medium and late sowing, good quality of grains and fodder are available. The average yield of its grains and dry fodder is 8.0 quintals and 20.9 quintals per acre respectively. This new modified hybrid variety gives even better results with better management and is resistant to other diseases of millet.
