SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch: Since the Hindenburg allegations, market regulator SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch has been in constant controversy. He is being bombarded with allegations one after the other. However, SEBI has so far called all the allegations baseless. Since the inception of Hindenburg, ICICI Bank has been accused of taking salaries and giving toxic work culture to employees. Employees including Congress are constantly demanding the resignation of the SEBI chief.
The government took a step
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), the body that monitors government expenditure, has decided to include a review of the performance of the Securities Market Exchange Board (SEBI) in its agenda this year. According to media reports, the parliamentary committee issued its agenda notification and said that it may question the current SEBI chief during the review process.
Employees and Congress demanded resignation
SEBI officials and employees have also filed a complaint with the Finance Ministry, alleging that they experienced a toxic work culture under the leadership of Madhabi Puri Buch. Yesterday they protested and demanded Madhabi's resignation. Congress has also demanded Madhabi's resignation, accusing her of extorting salaries from SEBI and ICICI Group.
Hindenburg charged
Hindberg accused SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch of holding stakes in Adani Group's offshore funds. SEBI has been accused of taking a soft stand in its investigation against the Adani Group, claiming that Madhabi and her husband had stakes in offshore funds. However, Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch called all the allegations baseless.
