Indian There is a big relief news for the passengers in Railways. You will now be able to change the date of your booked confirmed train ticket, and that too without any extra charges. This facility will be implemented from January 2026, which has been announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. This new policy will benefit lakhs of passengers who have to change dates unexpectedly and suffer losses due to cancellation of tickets.

The Railway Minister said that till now, to change the date, passengers had to cancel the old ticket and book a new ticket, in which the cancellation charge was deducted. But in the new system the date can be changed online and it will be free. This step is in the interest of passengers and will make the Railways even more passenger-friendly.

Travelers should keep these things in mind

The minister also clarified two important things. First, there is no guarantee that tickets will be confirmed on the new date – this will depend on seat availability. Second, if the fare is higher on the new date, you will have to pay the difference. This change will make it easier and cheaper to change travel plans.

What are the current cancellation rules?

At present the cancellation rules of Railways are strict. If you cancel your ticket 48 to 12 hours in advance, a 25% fee is deducted. If you cancel 12 to 4 hours in advance, the fee increases. And no refund is given after the reservation chart is prepared. This new policy will reduce these problems and make railway services more reliable.
