Once again the yellow claw (bulldozer) of the administration has roared with full force in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh. This time, the administration has taken the biggest action till date against land mafias and illegal encroachers and has razed nearly 40 years old illegal empire to the ground. In Sambhal, the crematorium, cemetery, government pond and illegal constructions done on the valuable land of Chakrod have been completely demolished. Through this historic action, ‘Vagbharati Tirtha’, which is specially mentioned and revered in Skanda Purana, has been completely freed from the clutches of land mafia. On the other hand, Allahabad High Court has taken a tough stand in the matter of arms licenses granted to the state’s musclemen and has issued a final warning to the government.
40 years old illegally occupied land, mythological pilgrimage site of Skanda Purana freed
Sambhal district administration was preparing a list of influential people sitting illegally on government lands for a long time. In this sequence, the joint team of Revenue and Police Department reached the spot with heavy security forces and bulldozers and carried out a major demolition operation. According to officials, this land was occupied by illegal construction for the last 4 decades (40 years), which included the land of government chakroad, cremation ground, cemetery and an important pond for water conservation.
The most important thing about this action is that with the removal of encroachment, the way has been cleared for the revival of the centuries old ‘Vagbharti Tirtha’. There is a special mention of this pilgrimage site in Skanda Purana, the holy book of Sanatan Dharma. There is great enthusiasm among the local citizens and devotees over the liberation of this place of mythological and historical importance. The administration has made it clear that direct action will be taken under the Gangster Act against those trying to re-occupy the liberated government land.
High Court’s whip on arms licenses of musclemen: Government gets only 3 days’ time
Allahabad High Court has made a very harsh comment in the serious matter of government arms licenses distributed to influential musclemen and mafias of Uttar Pradesh. In fact, the court had sought from the government the complete horoscope and status report of the arms licenses issued to 83 identified big musclemen of the state. But the honorable judge got angry over the incomplete information presented in the court by the government.
The government lawyers could submit information about only half of the total 83 musclemen, i.e. 42, in the court. Taking a strict stance on this carelessness and lax attitude, the High Court has expressed its strong displeasure. The court has given only three days’ last ultimatum to the Uttar Pradesh government and the concerned Home Department officials to file a complete report on the arms licenses of the remaining 41 influential musclemen. The court has made it clear that if the license details of all the musclemen are not received within the stipulated time limit, then the responsible senior officials will have to be personally summoned to the court.
