The weather patterns are going to change once again in the country’s capital Delhi. On Monday, March 30, Delhiites may feel heavy rain along with heat. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for today. On Sunday, Delhi’s maximum temperature was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius, which was 3.6 degrees above normal. However, the possible rain today may control the rising mercury and people are expected to get some respite from the scorching heat.

There will be showers with strong winds and thunder

According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, there may be light to very light rain in different parts of Delhi on Monday afternoon and evening. During this period, there is a possibility of strong winds at a speed of 40 km per hour. The weather may take a turn for the worse during the night, where rain with thunder and lightning is expected. Today, the maximum temperature of Delhi is expected to be around 31 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be around 21 degrees Celsius.

Unique combination of heat and rain in March

The weather of Delhi has been quite mixed in the month of March this year. If we look at the data, this time in March about 20 percent more rainfall than normal has been recorded, but despite this the heat has not relaxed its grip. It rained for several days after the middle of the month, yet the average maximum temperature remained near 32.4 °C. There was a warning of heavy rain on Sunday also, but it was sunny throughout the day and winds kept blowing at a speed of 30 km per hour.

Weather forecast for next 5 days (31 March – 4 April)

There will be clouds over the sky of Delhi in the coming days also. There is a possibility of cloudy sky and drizzle on Tuesday, March 31, due to which the temperature will remain between 30-32 degrees. The sky may become partially clear on Wednesday and Thursday (April 1-2), due to which the heat will increase and the mercury may go up to 36 degrees. However, at the end of the week, light rain will return once again on Friday and Saturday (April 3-4), which will provide relief to the people of Delhi from the humid heat.

Pollution and air quality situation

Delhi’s air remains in the ‘moderate’ category amid heat and dusty winds. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 194 on Sunday evening. Experts believe that if there is good rain tonight, further improvement in air quality may be seen and AQI may reach ‘satisfactory’ level.
