News India Live, Digital Desk: The smell of a major change in the country’s politics has intensified. After the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Act), the picture of Indian democracy is going to change completely. But do you know that the real impact of this law is not limited to the participation of women only? In fact, after the upcoming delimitation, six big states of the country will come into the role of ‘kingmakers’ in Lok Sabha politics. The number of seats in these states is expected to increase to around 400, which will decide the path to power at the Centre.

Deep connection between delimitation and women’s reservation

As per the provisions of the Women’s Reservation Act, it can be implemented only after the census and subsequent delimitation of constituencies. Experts believe that due to population growth in the states of North India, especially Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, there will be a huge increase in the number of seats. At present, out of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha, the share of these 6 states is quite significant, but after the new formula this figure may be shocking.

Dominance of seats will increase in these 6 states

Analysis of the data indicates that states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and West Bengal may see a large increase in the number of Lok Sabha seats. As per current estimates, after delimitation these 6 states may collectively have around 400 seats. This simply means that the party which gains lead in these states will find it very easy to reach the pinnacle of power.

South vs North: New Challenge of Politics

This possible distribution of seats has also given rise to a new debate. South Indian states argue that they have done a better job in population control, so it would be injustice to North Indian states to get the benefit of increase in seats only. However, with the implementation of women’s reservation, the number of women in Parliament will reach 181, which will prove to be a historic milestone for Indian democracy.

When will the new equation be implemented?

At present, everyone’s eyes are fixed on the census. After the census data comes, a Delimitation Commission will be formed, which will determine new boundaries and seats. It is believed that in the elections of 2029 or thereafter, we may see this new and changed Parliament, where the voice of women will be even louder and the political weight of the states will also be seen changed.
