You must remember that scene from the movie ‘Sholay’, when Veeru (Dharmendra) climbs on the water tank to get Basanti to agree to marry him? A similar, but very dangerous, scene was seen live on the streets of Greater Noida on Tuesday, and this time instead of the tank, there was a 50 feet high electricity tower!
What is the whole matter?
A young man named Pankaj, living in Dadri area of Greater Noida, had fallen in love with a girl. Pankaj wanted to marry her, but the girl and her family rejected his relationship. Pankaj was so broken by this ‘rejection’ in love that he directly adopted the path of ‘Sholay’.
In anger and grief, he went straight to the girl’s locality and climbed a high-tension electricity tower nearby.
What happened next… was no less than a movie!
Seeing Pankaj climbing the dangerous electric tower, people walking on the road were shocked. People immediately called the police and electricity department.
- 3 hours of high-voltage drama: The police and administration teams that reached the spot were left sweating. He tried hard to convince Pankaj to get down, but he remained adamant on his point.
- Electricity stopped: To avoid any untoward incident, first of all electricity was cut to the entire area.
- ‘Basanti’s family had to be called: When Pankaj was not ready to listen to anyone, the police gave up and called the girl’s father to the spot, so that they could pacify him and bring him down.
How did this drama end?
After about three hours of constant persuasion and coaxing from the police, family members and local people, finally Pankaj’s heart melted and he agreed to come down. It was fortunate that he was not injured in this entire drama and he was taken down safely.
Police have said that Pankaj is mentally disturbed and he is being given counselling. But this incident has once again proved that when ‘love’ blossoms, it does not take long for a person to become ‘Viru’!
