New Delhi: Former India cricketer and commentator Akash Chopra has questioned the management policy, expressing concern over the selection of the Indian team for the fourth match of the ongoing Test series against England. Reacting to the decision to include Anshul Kamboj in the team, Chopra has emphasized “lack of clarity” in the selection process.
The Indian team is currently trailing 1-2 in the five-match Test series against England and fast bowling is suffering from injuries in the attack. All -rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been dropped from the entire series, while fast bowler Akashdeep has a groin injury and Arshdeep Singh is also suspected of being fit. Due to these circumstances, Haryana’s fiery-chanders all-rounder Anshul Kamboj has been included in the team.
Akash Chopra, while interacting on his YouTube channel, expressed surprise at the way of selection. He said, “This is very interesting. There was a lot of discussion about Anshul Kamboj, as he did well for India-A.” Questioning the previous selection practices, Chopra said, “When someone got a chance to join the team, the management first chose Harshit Rana. Anshul Kamboj was sent back home.”
He further said, “And now the name of Kamboj is coming out again, while Rana is no longer in the team. You have to think that ‘what is going on?’ How do you decide who to keep and to let go? As far as the performance of India-A was concerned, the performance of Kamboj was better, but if you kept Harshit Rana in view of continuity, then you should have kept Rana again. “
Chopra questioned the decisions of the team management, describing the situation as “no clarity”. He emphasized that when Kamboj did well for India-A, he should have been selected on the first occasion, or if Harshit Rana was selected for continuity, the same argument should have been followed in the event of injuries. Such decisions are launching debate between cricket pundits about the selection policy.
