State Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar has issued a statement regarding the violence on Friday in Jangipur in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. He said that an attempt has been made to disturb communal harmony in the area and no such chaos will be tolerated.
The DGP clarified that the police is taking strict action to control the situation and it is the primary responsibility to protect human life. He said that no person involved in the nuisance will be spared and strict legal action will be taken. He also appealed to the people not to pay attention to rumors and cooperate with the administration.
“Do not take law in hand” – DGP warning
Rajiv Kumar said, “No one needs to take law in hand. Section 163 has been implemented in violence affected areas. If anyone damages government property, strict action will be taken against him.”
“Question on Mamta Banerjee’s intention” – BJP President Sukant Majumdar accused
West Bengal BJP President and Union Minister Sukant Majumdar blamed the state government on the violence. He said, “Mamata Banerjee wants to deliberately spoil the atmosphere to have electoral polarization. She has created this situation to distract people from issues like teacher recruitment scam.”
He also informed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is constantly in touch with the state leaders and is monitoring the situation.
Violent protest against Waqf law
On Friday, there were demonstrations against the Waqf law in several districts of West Bengal.

- Police and security forces were also pelted
The situation in Sati in Murshidabad district became uncontrollable when the crowd gathered and blocked the national highway despite prohibitory orders.
Stoned on policemen, 10 injured in violence
A senior police officer said that “a large number of people gathered after the prayers of Jumme and started protesting against the Waqf law. The mob blocked the National Highway-12 between Shamsherganj and Sati.”
