News India Live, Digital Desk: Two sacked postmen – Shailendra Kumar and Parashuram – were arrested by EOW (Economic Offenses Cell), Lucknow on Tuesday for embezzling a loan grant amount of Rs 1.12 crore issued for Scheduled Caste beneficiaries. The arrest has been made from Patna and Gorakhpur, and the investigation of the case is still going on.
What is the whole matter?
This case is related to Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation Limited, Gorakhpur. The loan grant of Rs 1,12,40,000/-(one crore twelve lakh forty thousand rupees) was released through the UP Cooperative Village Development Bank Limited Branch Bansgaon through a total of 85 checks for the financial year 2011-12 to 2015-16 for the self-employment scheme operated under the Special Component Plan.
However, only 20,000/- (twenty thousand rupees) of these 85 checks were paid to the right beneficiaries through 2 checks. The remaining checks issued in the name of Vikas Bank Limited Branch Bansgaon were illegally redeemed from Post Office Bettiahata and Civil Lines, Gorakhpur and embezzled one crore 12 lakh 20 thousand rupees among themselves.
Such a case and investigation was transferred
The case of this big scam was registered at the Cantt police station on 21 June 2018 (MU No.-513/18). Subsequently, on 26 December 2018, the investigation of the matter was handed over to the EOW (Economic Offenses Cell) Organization.
Who are the accused?
A total of 7 accused were found guilty during the investigation. Out of these, the charge sheet against 3 accused has already been sent to the court and 3 accused had already been arrested.]Under the same “campaign grip”, EOW, Lucknow on Tuesday arrested Shailendra Kumar son Rajendra Kumar from Patna (Bihar) and Parashuram son Ghurhu from Gorakhpur.
The accused Shailendra Kumar was a postman at Kudghat Post Office Gorakhpur. He opened a fake account in his name from the post office and transferred money from other accounts of the same post office to his account and embezzled lakhs of rupees. In connection with this fraud, another case was registered against him under Section 409 BC in 2022 police station Cantt, Gorakhpur, after which Shailendra Kumar was dismissed by the postal department.
