Monsoon rain forecast: Good news has come out about the southwest monsoon in India. This year (2025) El Nino effect will not affect the monsoon. According to the information, the US National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has ruled out the possibility of El Nino effect in this summer.
The announcement of the US agency came exactly a week before the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) released a long -term forecast for the upcoming monsoon season. The Meteorological Department made it clear earlier this month that the situation of El Nino would not arise during the upcoming monsoon.
What is El Nino?
El Nino Southern oscillation (ENSO) is an ocean-virtuous phenomenon, which is believed to be able to affect global atmospheric circulation. Al Nino is the three phases of southern oscillation. Hot conditions (El Nino), neutral conditions (neutral) and cold conditions (la neena).
The incident affects the season of June-September monsoon, especially in India. About 70% of India’s rainfall occurs during these four months, which are considered important for sowing of kharif crops, recharge of reservoirs and overall economy.
La Nina has a positive effect on the monsoon
According to the NOAA report, ENSO neutral conditions will continue during this summer season in the Northern Hemisphere. It is more than 50 percent likely that the ENSO will be neutral during August-October 2025.
It is noteworthy that La Nina has a positive effect on the monsoon, causing normal or excessive rainfall. Al Nino is associated with conditions like low rainfall or drought. However, India has recorded more than normal or average rainfall during ENSO neutral conditions for many years.
