
UDIS data from the Union Education Ministry has revealed that enrollment in schools across the country in 2023-24 has decreased by 37 lakh compared to the previous year.
Unified District Information System for Education (UDICE) Plus is a data collection platform, managed by the Ministry of Education to collect education statistics of schools across the country.
The number of students taking admission in schools in the year 2022-23 was 25.17 crore. Whereas the number of students taking admission in 2023-24 has increased to 24.80 lakh.
During the period under review, the enrollment of boys has declined by 21 lakh and the enrollment of girls has declined by 16 lakh.
Minority students account for 20 percent of the admissions. The minorities included Muslims 79.6 percent, Christians 10 percent, Sikhs 6.9 percent, Buddhists 2.2 percent, Jains 1.3 percent and Parsis 0.1 percent.
At the national level, 26.9 percent students registered in UDAIS Plus belonged to general category, 18 percent to SC, 9.9 percent to ST and 45.2 percent to OBC category.
