If you too are eagerly waiting to speed on Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway, then there is a big news for you. For the past several days, there was continuous speculation that this much-awaited expressway was going to be inaugurated on April 29. But, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has rejected all these rumors outright. Officials have clarified that it will take some more time for the construction work to be completely completed.
Why was the inauguration postponed and when will the journey begin?
According to NHAI officials, the expressway work is expected to be completely finalized by May 15. Actually, this 63 kilometer long project is being constructed in two different packages. Out of this, the work of 45 km long ‘Package-2’ from Azad Nagar of Unnao to Lucknow border has been completely completed and its completion certificate has also been issued.
The problem is in the 17.52 km long ‘Package-1’ coming in Lucknow area. This package is currently in its final stages and about 10 percent of its work is incomplete. At present, the supplementary certificate of this package has also not been issued, due to which the official deadline for completion of the construction has been extended.
Distance from Kanpur to Lucknow will be covered in just 45 minutes
After the commencement of this expressway, passengers will get a big relief from daily traffic jams. NHAI engineers claim that after the opening of the expressway, the journey between Kanpur and Lucknow will be reduced to just 45 minutes. This will not only save time, but the journey will also become very comfortable.
Equipped with world-class safety standards and hi-tech features
Keeping the safety and convenience of passengers paramount, this expressway has been designed as per international standards. Along with excellent infrastructure, it also includes many state-of-the-art facilities:
To keep the traffic flowing smoothly, 11 vehicle underpasses, 13 light vehicle underpasses and 11 pedestrian underpasses have been built.
To eliminate the problem of traffic jam, a 9.59 km long flyover, a railway overbridge (ROB) and four major bridges have been constructed.
Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) has been installed to prevent accidents and control traffic.
63 PTZ cameras, 21 interchange cameras and 16 video incident detection systems have been installed to keep an eye on every nook and corner of the expressway.
Two high-tech control rooms have also been built at Kilometer 27 and Kilometer 35 for security and monitoring.
Engineers have expressed confidence that as soon as the remaining 10 percent work is completed, this magnificent expressway will be opened to the general public.
