Mumbai: The second lifestyle of Mumbaikars Best has decided to buy buses on lease instead of buying buses to reduce the cost. But the number of new buses joining the best fleet is less. In April, 100 Best’s private -owned buses will be removed, as their service period is over. On the other hand, despite joining the fleet, new buses are still standing in parking due to lack of driver training. Therefore, the troubles of Mumbaikars are going to increase further in May. Best’s fleet includes both owned and leased buses. Five contractors run chartered buses on various routes in Mumbai.
Currently, Best’s fleet consists of 743 self -owned buses and 2,074 leased buses. The number of best-owned buses of Best in Tapya has increased from 993 on 11 December 2024 to 759 on 1 April 2025. Meanwhile, 100 buses owned by Best will be removed in a phased manner in April as their lifetime is ending. This will reduce the number of buses further. On the other hand, new buses involved in the best fleet are still standing without use.
84 buses parked in Agar after Kurla accident
Best conducted a tender process on 23 May last year and gave the contract to supply 2,100 electric single-decar AC buses to Olectra Greintech Limited. Out of these, more than 325 buses have joined the fleet. Apart from this, 84 more buses have arrived. However, after the best bus accident in Kurla, the training period for drivers was reduced to one month and 84 buses were not operated on various routes due to the recruitment process and training period. So these buses are standing in Agar.
By the end of the year 700 more buses will be said to be goodbye.
By November 2025, 700 non-AC buses will be removed in a phased manner. By June 2025, 90 midi buses will also be removed from the best fleet.
