A very shocking and big news is coming out from the political corridors of West Bengal. Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s troubles are showing no sign of abating. Amidst the ongoing political turmoil in the state, Mamata Banerjee has suffered another severe blow. Most of the senior TMC leaders and former MLAs, who faced a crushing defeat in the recent elections, have now clearly refused to support Didi. This internal strife and sounds of rebellion within the party have created a huge stir in politics from Kolkata to Delhi.
After the defeat, anger increased in TMC and its own people turned away
Political analysts say that the spark of dissatisfaction was burning within the party since the defeat in the elections. Local prominent leaders of many districts of North and South Bengal like Hooghly, Howrah, Medinipur and North 24 Parganas have raised serious questions on the functioning of the party leadership. According to sources, these leaders who lost the elections believe that the top leadership of the party ignored the grassroots workers and they did not get proper support during the elections. Due to this resentment, these leaders have now started distancing themselves from Mamata Banerjee led TMC, due to which the grassroots structure of the party seems to be weakening.
Is there going to be any major political upheaval in Bengal?
There are intense discussions in the political circles of Kolkata that these leaders who have left TMC may join some other big political party in the coming days. The opposition camp, especially the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other local parties, are keeping a close eye on the situation. The rebellion of these disgruntled leaders has created a big crisis in front of Mamata Banerjee, because on one hand she has to deal with the law and order and administrative challenges of the state, while on the other hand the old fort within the party seems to be collapsing.
Efforts started to control the disturbance and damage in Didi’s core group.
After this major setback, a round of emergency meetings have started in the core group of TMC and the party headquarters in Kalaikunda. Mamata Banerjee and party’s National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee are continuously engaged in damage control. District presidents and regional in-charges have been instructed to immediately contact these angry leaders and try to persuade them. However, the ground reality is showing that the mood of the angry leaders is in no mood to change, due to which the coming days are expected to be very interesting and turbulent in the politics of West Bengal.
