Saharanpur: The inauguration of Delhi-Dehradun six lane greenfield highway is going to open new doors of development for Devbhoomi as well as Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. On April 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate this highway from Ganeshpur in Biharigarh. 74 km of this 210 km long highway passes through Saharanpur, which will not only make the journey to Delhi easier, but is also expected to give a big boost to the economy of the district.
Saharanpur to Delhi: Now the journey will be smooth
Currently there are two main routes to go from Saharanpur to Delhi:
Via Shamli-Baghpat: Distance approximately 165 km.
Via Muzaffarnagar-Meerut: Distance approximately 190 km.
Although the opening of the new six-lane highway will not reduce the distance significantly, but due to six lanes and signal-free connectivity, there will be a huge saving of time and the traffic will become very smooth.
These sectors and industries will get ‘Sanjeevani’
Vegetable growers and farmers: Chhutmalpur and Bargaon are major centers of vegetable production. From here, mango, cucumber, gourd and brinjal are sent in large quantities to Kolkata, Chandigarh and Delhi. The proximity of the highway to Naveen Mandi (500 metres) will help farmers send their crops directly to bigger mandis and get better prices.
Woodcarving (ODOP): Saharanpur’s world famous woodcarving industry, whose annual export is more than ₹1500 crore, will get a new global market through this better connectivity.
Hosiery Hub: After Ludhiana, Saharanpur is the biggest center of hosiery. More than 800 units will now be able to deliver their goods to Delhi and NCR in less time and at less cost.
Industrial Corridor of 1000 hectares
UPEIDA is planning to develop an industrial corridor on one thousand hectare land along the highway in the district.
Land Selection: The process of identifying land for this is going on by the district administration.
Extension of NCR: With the construction of this corridor, many big industrial units of Delhi-NCR can move to Saharanpur, which will create thousands of employment opportunities at the local level.
Key Features: Journey through Rajaji National Park
The most picturesque part of the highway is at Ganeshpur, where 12 km long elevated road Passes over the forests and valleys of Rajaji National Park. It will not only make the journey beautiful, but is also considered to be Asia’s longest wildlife corridor road from the point of view of wildlife safety.
