US President Donald Trump, while talking to journalists in Air Force One, has given an important statement on the ongoing war between America and Iran. Trump said that America is currently having good diplomatic talks with Iran and he has full hope that this serious dispute can be resolved through diplomacy. However, along with this he gave a strict warning that if these talks prove unsuccessful, military attacks on Iran will be resumed. Trump claimed that Tehran has now been forced to come to the negotiating table due to the horrific attacks being carried out by American forces. He said that if diplomacy does not work, America will take the same steps it was taking till two days ago.
Trump’s statement came two days after Washington suddenly stopped its two-week long heavy bombing campaign on Iran. However, amidst this very fragile peace, the tension in the Middle East does not seem to be reducing. Recent drone attacks in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Iraq and claims of attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil infrastructure by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have once again increased uncertainty and danger in the region.
‘Direct talks are not in our DNA’, Iran rejects US claims
On the other hand, Iran has clearly rejected claims of any kind of direct talks with America. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai reacted sharply, calling Washington’s statements fabricated. He stressed that talking directly to America in this way is not in his ‘DNA’. However, Baghai acknowledged that indirect messages are still being exchanged between the two countries through intermediary countries. Along with this, Tehran has also reiterated its claim of complete control and sovereignty over the world’s most important oil sea route ‘Hormuz Strait’.

Hopes of a diplomatic path between the US and Iran had an immediate impact on the global market and crude oil prices fell sharply. Brent crude, which crossed the $100 per barrel mark last week, fell nearly 9% to around $88 per barrel.
