Through ‘Free Toilet Scheme 2.0’, those families who were earlier deprived of the benefits of this scheme are being given a second chance. Under this scheme, financial assistance of ₹ 12,000 is being provided by the government to the eligible beneficiaries directly in their bank account (DBT) for construction of toilet in their house. Will get freedom from filth and diseases: What is the main objective of the scheme?

Open defecation has been a major problem in rural areas of the country, which not only spreads filth but also poses a risk of many infectious diseases. To get rid of this serious problem and promote cleanliness, the government had implemented this scheme on a large scale in 2020. Now its second phase i.e. ‘Toilet 2.0’ has been started. This time, payment is being ensured to all those people whose previous dues or applications were stopped due to some reasons.

Assistance amount of ₹ 12,000 will be given in two installments

The total amount of ₹12,000 available under the scheme is provided to the beneficiaries in two equal installments.

first installment: Once the application is accepted and work begins, the first installment of ₹6,000 is sent directly to the beneficiary’s bank account.

Second installment: The remaining amount of ₹6,000 is transferred after the construction of the toilet is completed and physical verification is done. This entire process is digital, due to which the role of middlemen has been eliminated and the money is reaching the beneficiary directly.

Eligibility and Criteria: Who will get the benefits of this scheme?

The government has set some stringent but transparent standards for this scheme:

Poor and working class: This scheme is mainly for those poor families who do not have enough resources to construct toilets.

Families without government jobs: No member in the applicant’s family should be in government job.

Age Limit: The age of the person applying should be above 18 years and below 60 years.

Swachh Bharat Pledge: The main objective of this scheme is to create a clean India, so the applicant should not already have a toilet in the house.

Documents Required for Application

While applying for Free Toilet Scheme 2.0, it is mandatory for you to have the following documents:

Identity Card: Aadhar Card, Voter ID Card or Ration Card.

Bank Details: Photocopy of bank passbook (so that money can come directly into the account).

certificate: Caste certificate (if applicable) and residence certificate.

Photo and Mobile: Passport size photograph and an active mobile number.

Complete method of online and offline application

Online Process: First of all go to the official website of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural)’. There go to the ‘Citizen Corner’ section and click on ‘Application Form for IHHL’. Fill all the personal information required in the form, upload the required documents and submit. After submission, you will get an ‘Application Number’ through which you can check the status of your application.

Offline Process: If you are unable to apply online, you can contact your nearest Gram Panchayat, Block Office or Municipal Corporation. Take the form from the concerned officer, fill your information in it and submit it along with the documents. After verification your name will be added to the beneficiary list.
