After the historic change in the politics of West Bengal in May 2026, the fortunes of the state are also going to change. After winning the post of Chief Minister by winning with an overwhelming majority, Shubhendu Adhikari reached his first official visit to Delhi. His visit has suddenly opened the closed doors of development in Bengal. The Central Government has given the green signal to a huge economic package of ₹39,000 crore to give impetus to the development projects that were stuck since the time of the previous government. This decision is going to have a direct impact on the pockets and convenience of the common citizens of Bengal.
Modi-Shubhendu meeting: Effect of ‘double engine’ government visible in Bengal
Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari had a very important meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as soon as he reached Delhi. After this meeting, a new outline of development and public welfare policies has been prepared in the state. In fact, during the tenure of the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, many important central projects were put on hold due to the deadlock between the Center and the state. Now with the coming of the new government, all these pending files have been cleared. In political circles, this is being seen as the superfast effect of the ‘double engine’ government in Bengal, which is sure to transform the infrastructure and health services.
Gift to the general public: Free treatment from ‘Ayushman Bharat’ and guaranteed employment from July 1.
The biggest benefit of this historic economic package is going to be given to the poor and middle class families of Bengal. According to a report in Times of India, the central government has given strict instructions to give priority to the health and employment of the common people in Bengal. Under this, the much awaited ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana’ will be implemented in the state, through which every poor family will get the facility of free treatment up to ₹ 5 lakh.
Not only this, a big announcement has been made for rural areas on the employment front as well. ‘VB G-RAM G’ scheme is going to be launched in the state from 1st July. Under this scheme, every rural family of Bengal will get a direct legal guarantee of 125 days of paid employment in a year, which will give a tremendous boost to the rural economy. Along with this, after the high-level meeting held between Union Health Minister JP Nadda and state health officials, the work of setting up ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’ (Health and Wellness Centers) across the state has been expedited on war footing.
Complete account of budget and schemes: Understand who will get what
The implementation of this new package and schemes received by Bengal can be easily understood through this table:
| Scheme/Sector | funds/benefits | Main objectives and targets |
|---|---|---|
| water resources projects | ₹39,000 crore fund | To accelerate water management, irrigation and infrastructure development in the state. |
| Ayushman Bharat Scheme | Free medical benefits up to ₹5 lakh | To provide health services to every poor through ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’. |
| VB G-RAM G Scheme | 125 days employment guarantee | Providing economic security to rural families (implemented from 1 July 2026). |
| PM Surya Ghar Yojana | Heavy subsidy on solar panels | Ensuring free electricity and energy savings for every household. |
Shah’s action plan on infiltration: Even birds will not be able to kill on the border
Along with development plans, very tough decisions have also been taken during this Delhi visit regarding the internal security and national security of Bengal. Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari held a highly sensitive and high-level meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence. During this meeting, a detailed roadmap was prepared to make the security system on the India-Bangladesh border impenetrable and completely stop illegal infiltration.
The Home Ministry has handed over special ‘guidelines’ to the new government of the state to completely control illegal infiltration. According to sources, now the vigilance of intelligence and BSF is being doubled in the border areas, so that strict legal action can be taken against the elements who play with national security.
