There is a big and slightly disappointing news for those who frequently travel between Bedo and Khunti. The big dream that was seen to widen and modernize this important road is currently stuck. The tender of this big scheme worth about Rs 492 crore has been canceled due to non-availability of land. This means that people will have to wait longer for a comfortable and safe journey on this road.
What was the whole plan?
This is not a small road, but a very important road. According to the plan, this 48 kilometer long road was to be built with two-lane along with paved shoulder (paved strip on both sides of the road). At some places, there were plans to make it even four-lane. For this work, the Union Road Transport Ministry had taken it into its hands and had also started preparations for the construction. 13.5 kilometers of this road is to be built in Ranchi district and 34.5 kilometers in Khunti district.
Where is the screw stuck?
The biggest hurdle in the way of this big project was land acquisition. The government had also given money to both the districts for land acquisition, but the process of getting the land could not be completed. When it became clear that it would take more time to get the land, it was decided to cancel the tender. Now a new tender will be floated only when the land acquisition work is completely completed.
How is the road condition now?
At present this road is with the Road Construction Department and its condition is not very good. The road is quite narrow, due to which vehicles face a lot of difficulty in commuting. The traffic load on the road is also very high, due to which there is often a risk of accidents here. To eliminate this problem, a plan was made to widen this road, which has now been shelved.
