News India Live, Digital Desk: Eclipse and Sutak period are considered to have special importance in Hindu religion and astrology. Today 3 March 2026 Due to the astronomical events of 2015, a major change has been made in the worship system of major pilgrimage sites of the country. Following the religious beliefs, the doors of all the major temples of Uttar Pradesh including the grand Ram Temple of Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath Dham and Banke Bihari Temple of Mathura have been closed. There is a complete ban on touching and offering food to idols during the Sutak period.
1. Time and religious restrictions of Sutak period (Sutak Period Rules)
According to the scriptures, the Sutak period becomes effective a certain time before the eclipse, which is considered the time of ‘Ashauch’.
Lockdown of temples: During this period, entry into the sanctum sanctorum of temples is prohibited.
Ban on worship: During the Sutak period, neither the idol of the God is touched nor any special aarti or ritual is performed. This is the reason why darshan for devotees has been stopped since this morning.
2. Ayodhya Ram Temple: New schedule for Ramlala’s darshan (Ayodhya Darshan Update)
Sutak period is also being strictly followed in the court of Ramlala in Ayodhya.
Change: According to Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, Ramlala will remain behind the curtain till the eclipse period ends.
Purification: As soon as the eclipse ends, the entire temple complex will be purified by washing it with Saryu water. After this there will be a special consecration of Ramlala and then the devotees will be allowed entry with the evening aarti.
3. Preparation for purification in Kashi and Mathura (Kashi & Mathura Temple News)
Varanasi: VIP and general darshan has been stopped in the temple of Baba Vishwanath as soon as the Sutak period begins. After the moksha (end) of the eclipse, Baba’s Jalabhishek will be done with Ganga water, only after which the devotees will be able to have darshan.
Mathura-Vrindavan: The doors of Thakur ji have also been closed in Banke Bihari and Dwarkadhish temples. Here, after the eclipse, special ‘Shudhikaran Aarti’ will be performed by the sevayats, only then the process of darshan in Braj will start again.
4. What to do and what not to do during the eclipse? (Do’s and Don’ts)
During Sutak period and eclipse, devotees are advised to follow certain rules:
Use of Tulsi Dal: It is considered mandatory to add basil leaves to food items.
Mantra chanting: This time is considered best for mental peace and chanting of mantras of Ishta Dev.
Importance of donation: After the eclipse ends, bathing in holy rivers and donating as per one’s capacity brings virtuous results.
5. When will the doors of temples open? (Darshan Reopening Time)
According to astronomical calculations, cleaning and purification work of all the major temples will be done this evening after the end of the eclipse. It is estimated that after 6:30 pm Regular darshan and evening aarti will start in all major cities. Devotees are advised to check the local time and crowd situation before visiting the temple.
