The air of Delhi-NCR has become so poisoned that breathing seems no less than a punishment. There is fog on the roads and lines of patients in hospitals. Now the country’s biggest court, the Supreme Court, has also taken a strict stance on this serious situation.

CJI said- We are not magicians!
The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi made a very big and important point during the hearing. When amicus curiae senior lawyer Aparajita Singh said that the situation in Delhi has become like a ‘health emergency’, the CJI asked:
“What magic wand does the judiciary have? We all know that the situation is dangerous. Everyone knows the problem, but now the issue is what is the solution?”
The court said that nothing would be achieved by repeatedly enumerating the problems. We have to find out why this happens every year and what is its sure cure. And the answer to this can be given not by judges but only by environmental experts.
“Each area is different, so how can there be one solution?”
The Supreme Court also put the government and committees in the dock. The court said that the reasons for pollution could be different in different areas of Delhi and NCR. Somewhere there is dust, somewhere there is smoke from vehicles and somewhere there is stubble.
- The court has asked the government what steps have been taken by the expert committees so far at the ground level?
- Now ‘Jugaad’ will not work, long term concrete measures will have to be taken.

The strictness of the court means that now the officers will have to work out of the AC rooms. Now the eyes of entire Delhi-NCR are fixed on the hearing of 3rd December to see whether we will get any relief from this poisonous air or not.
