News India Live, Digital Desk: Isn’t being acquitted by the court also a proof of someone’s innocence? This question is resonating today in Meerut’s Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial (LLRM) Medical College. There is a doctor here, Dr. Shaheen. Years ago his name was linked to the 2005 Delhi serial blasts. After a long and difficult legal battle, the court acquitted him honorably of all charges. But it seems that the system in which he works still views him with suspicion.

When a doctor’s name was whitewashed

Dr. Shaheen works in the Radiology Department of Meerut Medical College. Recently something happened which shocked him and his supporters. Someone erased his name from the board outside the department and whitewashed it. This was not just erasure of a name, but an attack on the respect that he had regained after years of fighting.

When this matter came to light, Dr. Shaheen complained about it to the principal of the medical college and to senior officials of the government. He says that he is being deliberately harassed.

What is the whole matter?

Dr. Shaheen’s original posting was in Bijnor, but he has been serving in LLRM Medical College, Meerut for a long time. After his acquittal in the Delhi blasts case, he continued working in Meerut. But now the medical college administration is trying to send them back to Bijnor. The administration says that his original posting is there, so he should go back there.

At the same time, Dr. Shaheen is linking it to his harassment. He believes that even after getting rid of the stain of the blast case, some people want to remove him from here. He also considers the incident of deletion of name as a part of this conspiracy.

What does the college administration say?

When the Principal of the Medical College, Dr. R. When C. Gupta was talked to, he expressed ignorance of this incident. He said, “I am not aware of whitewashing the name. I will get the matter looked into.” On Dr. Shaheen’s transfer, he said, “His original posting is in Bijnor and the process of sending him there is going on at the government level.”

On one side is the court’s decision, which declares Dr. Shaheen innocent. On the other hand, there is a system which perhaps is not able to fully accept them even today. This fight is not just for a job or transfer, but for the respect and normal life for which Dr. Shaheen spent many precious years of his life in the courts. Now it remains to be seen where this new fight takes them.
