The Supreme Court has issued strict instructions to the Central and State Governments on the Hate Speech. The court has said that Hate speech should be taken seriously and immediate steps should be taken to stop it. The court also said that without waiting for the complaint to be filed, the police should take self -cognizance and file an FIR and take action against the culprits. The court said that Hate speech will not be tolerated and it is becoming a “big threat” which is necessary to stop.
Immediately ban vulgar language
The Supreme Court has said that hateful things spreading on social media are worrying and there is a strong need to stop them. Nowadays, an attempt is being made to justify everything in the name of ‘freedom of expression’, which is very dangerous. The court said that hateful things are threats to the secular fabric of the country and they should be stopped immediately.
The court also reprimanded the media
The Supreme Court has directed all the states and union territories to take self -cognizance and take action under sections 153A, 153B, 295A and 505 of the IPC, even if no complaints have been filed. The court also said that any kind of hilawali will be considered contempt of Supreme Court in taking action. The court also reprimanded the media, especially TV channels and said that it is the responsibility of the anchors to stop the Hate speech. The court said that the government should not make the issue of Hate Speech insignificant and develop a mechanism to stop it.
